Brief History of our Church (SCCEFC): |
1977: The Parent Church of SCCEFC
was started, Calgary Chinese Evangelical
Free Church (NW)
1988: South Calgary Chinese
Evangelical Free Church was planted.August 7, 1988:
SCCEFC had its First Worship
Service (Cantonese with Mandarin translation).
10 Families has started worship at
SCCEFC and its initial attendance was 65
people.
February 11, 1989: First baptism.
May 7 - September 10, 1989: SCCEFC held
worship services at Woodman
Junior High School.Pastor Derek Ho
was hired as the main pastor on staff. Attendance
was 108 on the Cantonese and 34 on the
English.July 8, 1989: First church picnic.
January 1990: English & Mandarin
joint services begun. Guest speaker was
Rev. Doug PipusCantonese had a
separate worship service.
November 4, 1990: English
Congregation had its own service.
Cantonese and Mandarin Congregations
combined for joint worship service.
January 6, 1991: SCCEFC held
worships services at Milton Williams
Junior High School during summer
renovations at Milton Williams, SCCEFC
held worship services at John Ware
Junior High School.April 1992: Rev.
Gordon Marchant was hired as the interim
English Pastor and then later was hired
fulltime as the English Pastor.
September 1992: Rev. Gordon Marchant
hired as fulltime English Pastor.
October 1992: a joint venture between
Calgary Chinese Evangelical Free Church
and South Calgary Chinese Evangelical
Free Church, they planted North East
Chinese Evangelical Free Church.
1993: 5th Anniversary for SCCEFC.
1994: there was a need for guest
speakers in the Cantonese Worship
service.1994: Pastor Henry Chou
served as the consulting pastor during
SCCEFC's transition stage in ministry.
November 1, 1995, the Mandarin
congregation had grown and planted a
church in the Northwest of Calgary, New
Life Evangelical Free Church.
September 1995-September 1996: Mr.
Emmanual Hung was hired as the interim
speaker for the Cantonese Congregation.1997: Building purchased
at 340-39th Ave SE (current location).
September 21, 1997: The First Worship
Service was held at 39th Ave SE,
attendance was 183 people for the
Cantonese Congregation and first
recorded English Congregation in the new
location was 74 in 1998.September 1997: Pastor Dan Wat
installed as Pastor of the Cantonese
Congregation.
October 5, 1997: Dedication of new
church building on 340 39 Avenue SE.
March 1998: Rev. Allan Low hired
as the English Congregational Pastor.
1998: 10th Anniversary for SCCEFC.
July 1999: Pastor Kelvin Tang was
hired as Assistant Pastor of the
Cantonese Congregation.
The average attendance of the
English Congregation is approximately
125 people (2000 Statistics).
The average attendance of the
Cantonese Congregation is approximately
295 people (2000 Statistics).
December 10, 2000: City of Calgary
issued building permit for a new
additional building for SCCEFC.
December 2000: another Mandarin worship
service was started because of
increasing interest. Initial attendance
was 33 people.February 11, 2001:
SCCEFC launched its first website
www.sccefc.caSeptember 1, 2001:
Catherine Wan (RN) was hired as the
Parish Nurse due to the needs that arose
for maturing congregations and concern
for their health.Februrary 1, 2002:
Pastor Kenny was hired as the Associate
Pastor to the Congregation because of
the continued growth.October 2002:
Worship held in new building (addition).
December 22, 2002: Dedication of new
building.November 1, 2003: Crystal
Wong was hired part time as Children's
Ministry Worker.2003: 15th
Anniversary for SCCEFC.August 8,
2005: Rev. Isaac Quan hired as Associate
English Pastor.September 11, 2005:
Pastor James Lin hired as Mandarin
Congregational Pastor.Februrary 1,
2006: Crystal Wong hired fulltime and
now serves as the Children's Ministry
Director.Februrary 1, 2006: Pastor
Raymond Lai was hired to help with the
continued growth with the Cantonese
Congregation.Februrary 3, 2008:
Shirley Wu hired as Ministry Worker to
help assist the needs in the Cantonese
Congregation.Average Attendance in
Cantonese Worship Service is 550 (2008
Statistics).Average Attendance in
English Worship Service is 200 (2008
Statistics).Average Attendance in
Mandarin Worship Service is 75 (2008
Statistics).2008: 20th Anniversary
