EMM October 23 Meeting Minutes

1. Agenda approved by the majority of members.  Adoption of last EMM minutes.

3. Specific updates on Action items from last time

·        FB page: Facebook page not feasible so Calvin & Uncle Percy now looking to use Google site.  Members interested in joining Google group will sign up & have access to the site

·        Challenges: In the process of developing an overall strategic plan to address challenges & identify priorities, limiting solutions to challenges.  Discuss challenges on Nov.5 & Dec.1 EMB meetings.

·        Prayer: Nov.5 prayer meeting will be extended to include sharing & discussion on challenges.  Will also be praying over previously mentioned challenges during November prayer meetings. 

·        Caring: organizing the caring effort by forming a Caring Committee.  This committee to formulate a plan to reach out to newcomers & people who have left, based on a list of names

·        Strategic Plan Development: to guide our solution to challenges & identify priorities

 

3. Strategic Plan Development

  • Strategic context: (helps to set priorities & boundaries)
    • Values (Biblical truth, spiritual growth, spirit teamwork, open communication, courage to obey)
    • Beneficiaries (English speaking citizens of Calgary)
    • Services (Worship, Discipleship, Caring & Fellowhip)
    • Places (Calgary- workplaces, schools, homes etc, other mission fields)

·        Vision- 3 C’s (A congregation of Christ’s disciples, loving God and others)

  • Mission- Exist to make disciples for Christ fulfilling His Great Commission and Commandment;  Matt.28:19- solutions to be based on this passage

    • Exalt God through life transforming worship
      • Exalting  God’s goodness and greatness  in worship
      • Inviting responses with obedience and trust
    • Develop Characters of a Christ’s disciples
      • Develop fruit of the Holy Spirit
      • Develop character profiles & personal assessment tools
    • Equip Christians for fulfilling the Great Commission & Commandment
      • Develop education curriculum and internship opportunities
    • Build Christian community for caring and building up one another

4.  Q&A

 

1.  When will the Google site be up?  Within approx a month.  A tutorial will be set up to guide usage of the site.   Don’t need an existing google account.

2.  What are the critical success factors?  They will be based on the strategies devised.

3.  Why are we selling grocery bags?  For what purpose?  Who initiated this?  Chinese side decided to give these away to newcomers.  Extended as an offer to other congregations to buy if they would like it- not for church profit.  Concern over others thinking they can start selling things within the church without church board approval.
